How DPG Media ran a fully catered company event

DPG Media brought sixty-eight colleagues to the A'DAM Tower for a day where content, relaxation and experience all had to come together. Presentations, a shared lunch, a VR experience, and drinks high above the city to close.

Our biggest challenge was to put on an event that was strong on content but at the same time fun and relaxed for everyone.

The programme
  • Lunch and presentation in a private room, with microphone and screen
  • VR experience in the park, everyone at once
  • Free Roaming VR Zombie in teams of six, thirty minutes
  • Drinks in the 360 Hangout at the top of the tower

The challenge

The bar was set high. This was not an outing but a full day with many parts coming together. After the initial booking the reservation changed several times: numbers shifted, the programme was sharpened, and the lunch in particular called for flexibility.

Everything also had to line up. A comfortable room for presentations with proper facilities, an activity everyone could join at the same time, and a logical flow between the parts. The event had to run smoothly without the group having to find or plan anything itself.

How the day ran

From first contact to the day itself there was a lot of coordination. Between booking and event, solutions were actively worked through, especially around the lunch and the day's programme.

Lunch took place in a well-dressed room with microphone and screen. The VR experience in the park followed. The group played several games, so there was something suitable for everyone and nobody had to wait.

The highlight was the Free Roaming VR Zombie game. In teams of six, participants took on the challenge for around thirty minutes. The teamwork and the length of the game were what made the impression.

After the VR part the group was walked up to the 360 Hangout at the top of the tower. That transition ran smoothly: participants did not have to find their own way and were taken through the programme.

What it delivered

"The VR experience got the energy going straight away and everyone genuinely joined in," DPG Media said. The alternation between presentation, VR and drinks made for a relaxed atmosphere and a lot of interaction.

What stuck most was the combination of well-organised content and real experience. The Zombie game was named most often as the favourite, but the closing drinks in the 360 Hangout made an impression too: the view over Amsterdam with proper catering was a strong finish to the day.

"We would recommend A'DAM VR without hesitation to other teams looking for something special."
